Our Story

Our Beginnings: From Tutoring to TEAM School

In the mid-1970s, co-founders Ken Philbrook and Art Steinberg began an in-home tutoring service to help students strengthen foundational skills. This initiative grew into TEAM School (Tutorial and Educational Assistance in Mississauga) in 1981, a private school recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education. TEAM School was created to provide individualized learning programs, academic upgrading, and small class sizes for students who needed extra support to reach grade-level proficiency.

TEAM School’s Mission and Growth

From the start, TEAM School has focused on personalized education for students who benefit from extra teacher attention and a structured, supportive environment. Our mission is to help every child build confidence, master essential skills, and achieve success at the secondary and post-secondary levels. Over the years, TEAM School has expanded its programs to serve students from Grades 1-8, offering a strong academic foundation and a caring community.

Expanding Opportunities for Students

Today, TEAM School operates from its dedicated campus in Mississauga, serving families across the GTA. Students enjoy:

  • Small class sizes for individualized instruction
  • Regular communication between teachers and parents
  • Access to shared facilities and resources with Mentor College
  • A transportation system covering Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, and Etobicoke

Leadership and Vision

Mentor College and TEAM School were founded on a commitment to academic excellence and a caring, student-centered environment - values that continue to guide our leadership today.
